They are a private, non profit, non governmental organization in North Carolina. They have protected 18,000 acres in Alleghany, Ashe, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancy counties. In addition to protecting working farmlands, Blue Ridge Conservancy efforts have created natural areas like Beech Creek Bog, Bear Paw and Bullhead Mountain. They continue to help Elk Knob State Park to expand its borders. In 2008 they established 2000 acre State Gameland Perserve on Pond Mountian in Ashe Co.
The organization of misson is “to protect the natural resources of Appalachia by conserving land with significant ecological, cultural, recreational, or scenic value of North Carolina High Country”. “Membership in Blue Ridge Conservancy makes a real difference by directly supporting projects that ensure our farmlands stay in tact, our drinking water stays clean and our views remain beautiful- – forever.
